Introduction to the plan.

The objective is to introduce a numbering system for all tram routes of which run along St Kilda road, of which will in turn make it easier for new customers of who seek to use a tram in this area of the Melbourne tramway network.

The benefit shall be mostly for those who seek to travel southbound from the CDB, especially where their destination is any of the stops along St Kilda road or Brighton road.

Some benefit shall be gained for northbound/inbound passengers, especially when not all routes go via Swanston Street.

Tables below, show what needs to be numbered to what.

PLEASE NOTE:This plan, does not mean, nor is it to require, that, we have tens of tram routes in existence nor in operation at any time. It does urge, to either use, or mothball each of these suggested route numbers for this corridor only. See below for more.

Units for southbound/outbound passengers

The plan, is for the units on all routes, to correspond to where the route shall branch off at. There are less than ten, in fact there are 8 of these branches, therefore this strategy of mine shall work quite well for sure.

Please see the first canvas map below for how this is to work.

To future-proof the plan

To ensure the plan can be used for any future review of tram routes in the area, whole blocks of ten route numbers, need to be held in reserve, and not used elsewhere in the tram network.

This is to ensure that, future planners can review and either modify or expand the list of routes, while retaining the same number sequence system for the area, and retain this St Kilda Spine numbering system in place.

This includes, 01 to 09, 10 to 19, and one other range of which could be 30 to 39?.

Hold selected units in some tens ranges could also be a good idea. At least hold those units to be the last you use elsewhere. For example, #90 to #99, hold #92 to #95 in reserve, but not reserve #96 to #99, as they can not be used in this area.

Existing uses of these route numbers, need to have the route number changed in the short term. That way, customers can get use to the new route number before the old one gets reused some time in the future.
